(SOMEWHERE) somewhere i would leave my heart.

These photos are of the development of making Laura's hands look bloody and trying to make it look as realistic as possible. I wanted to create a gruesome theme to this photograph as well as having a strong meaning behind it. If i was going to symbolically leave my heart somewhere i would choose to leave it with Laura as i know i can trust her with it and it would be safe and cared for. Realistically if Laura was to actually look after my heart i would imagine it to be rather gruesome. I wanted to combine both the symbolic and realistic sides of this into one photograph and i feel that i have achieved that.
For taking the photographs i used a lamp to shine onto Laura's hands in a dark room.
I took this photo to document this project from the start, to show that before i put the fake blood on to her hands i was choosing how i would like Laura's hands to be and positioning them in the way i wanted.

This photo is showing the start of putting the fake blood onto Laura's hands and i felt that it was not enough blood and i wanted to cover more of her hand and in fact put some blood down her wrists.

I had then put more blood on to her hands and also put some down her wrists. I positioned her hands how i wanted for the photo and i started to take my photographs.
What i did not like about this photo is that you could not see the different thicknesses of the blood or the different tones and it all just looked one colour.

This photo was too bright and the blood looked too much like paint and unrealistic although you could see the thickness and different tones in the blood a little easier.

I decided to experiment with the way the hands were positioned and so i instructed Laura about how i wanted them. Unfortuanatly in the photograph the lighting was not on her left hand and i think that i ruins the photograph an it is not how i wanted it.

I changed the position of Laura's hands again and i found that i liked how this position looked more than the first one. In this photo you are able to see the different thickness and tones in the blood as well and that is what i wanted in the photograph. The only thing i found was that maybe the photo was too dark but i decided that if this was to be my final photo i can edit it and make it lighter.

This was just another experimental photo in front of the glass in the back door of her house. I wanted to see whether or not the pattern went well behind her hands or the lighting in the room gave a better effect. I found that the doors glass pattern did not work in my opinion but the lighting in the room did show the different tones and thicknesses in the blood and gave it that realism which is what i wanted.

This is just a photo of her washing her hands. The funny thing is it was perminent and didnt exactly come off!
